Programs

Programs are created to provide welcoming and inclusive learning environments that are flexible, responsive and foster children’s engagement, strengths, skills, knowledge and interests. Educators collaborate with children, families and the community to provide play and leisure opportunities that are meaningful to children and support the service philosophy.

Before School Care

During the school term, SMOOSH is open from 7:00am until 8:30am. Breakfast is provided with a variety of cereals, toast, and fruit. Breakfast finishes at 7:45am so please ensure that if you are arriving later in the morning that your child has eaten.

  • Board Games, drawing, work books, imaginative play and construction activities are available to all children, free play outdoors weather permitted.

At 8:30am the roll is marked, and the children leave for school to be supervised in the playground by a teacher. In wet weather the children go directly to their classroom to be supervised by their teacher.

In Term 1, kindy children are taken to their classroom to be left under the supervision of their teacher.

After School Care

SMOOSH reopens for the afternoon session from 3:00pm to 6:00pm. Upon arrival, the children must wash their hands and have their name marked off the electronic roll then put their bags in year groups in the hall. The children then serve themselves afternoon tea.

  • The children are encouraged to participate in free play outside, and a wide variety of board games, sports and craft activities.

At 5:30pm children pack up and play quiet games inside.

Late fees apply after 6:00pm, please see conditions of enrolment.

Vacation Care

Vacation Care operates from 7am to 6pm daily. We provide a full program which includes Incursions and Excursions at an additional cost.

Breakfast and Afternoon Care

01

Breakfast and Afternoon Care

  • SMOOSH has adopted a healthy eating policy, the service aims to provide nutritious and varied meals.
  • We know children are hungry when they finish school, it is a LONG time after their morning tea and lunch at school, therefore we ensure that our breakfasts and afternoon teas are balanced, comprehensive meals that cater to a variety of tastes. Every afternoon involves a selection of fresh fruit and vegetables. We use wholemeal bread and where possible, products lower in fat, salt and sugar.
  • A weekly menu is displayed on the noticeboard, this is planned in collaboration with the children. Consideration is given to children with special dietary needs and the food provided is adjusted based on any special requirements.
  • Anaphylaxis is the most acute and serious form of allergy. Approximately 1 in 200 individuals will experience such a reaction. Nuts are responsible for many such reactions. For this reason SMOOSH aims to be a “Nut Free Zone”. Peanut butter and other nut-based products are not provided.
  • Please do not send any nuts or nut-based products (including peanut butter & hazelnut spread) to the Centre.

Food

  • DO NOT send food that requires cooking or preparation.

  • All children must follow the centre’s safety rules whilst on their bike, scooter or roller blades, children unable to follow rules whilst on their ‘wheeled toys’ will have the item banned.

Excursions

04

Excursions

  • Excursions are are compulsory, additional fees are charged to cover the cost of the excursion (see Vacation Care Enrolment Form).
  • All fees are charged via Debitsuccess, including excursion costs to secure your child’s place on the excursion. If a venue requires pre-payment for an excursion that you have booked into and your child does not attend you will still need to pay for the excursion as well as the day. Excursion permission form must be signed at the time of enrolment.
  • The Vacation Care Supervisor holds the right to refuse to take children on excursions who have previously displayed unacceptable behaviour and/or behaved in such a way that has put themselves, other children, staff or members of the community at risk.
  • All children must have enough food and drinks to last the entire day; including a refillable water bottle.

Personal Property

05

Personal Property

  • Children are not to bring any technology to the centre unless stated otherwise on the program.
  • The centre and staff will take no responsibility for any items lost or broken; children are responsible for their own property. Although all care will be taken to ensure children’s personal property is kept safe, no responsibility will be taken, so all precious items and valuables should be left at home.
